TOEFL – UPADTE

TOEFL, or Test of English as a Foreign Language, assesses non-native speakers’ ability to use and comprehend North American English as it is written, spoken, heard, and comprehended in college and university contexts.

TOEFL Eligibility Criteria:

 A pass in 10+2 level from any recognised Indian Board or University is usually sufficient to take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test.

The test, however, is appropriate for candidates in high school

FORMAT OF THE EXAM :

  • SECTION 1 : Reading
  • SECTION 2: Listening
  • SECTION 3 : Speaking
  • SECTION 4 : Writing

Reading Section

  • The TOEFL IBT reading section assesses your ability to comprehend academic texts. It usually consists of three to four reading passages, each followed by a set of questions for you to answer.
  • Instead of 12-14 questions, you will now answer only 10 questions after each passage. The duration will now be between 54 and 72 minutes, rather than 60 and 80 minutes.

Listening Section

  • The TOEFL iBT listening section assesses your ability to understand spoken dialogues and decipher academic speech.
  • Instead of 4 – 6, you will now be subjected to 3 – 4 ‘lectures.’ The number of questions per lecture remains constant at six. The duration will now be 41–57 minutes rather than 60–90 minutes.
  • The total number of ‘conversations’ has remained constant.

Speaking Section

  • The TOEFL iBT speaking section assesses your ability to communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  • You will now only have four tasks to complete instead of six. The time will now be 17 minutes rather than 20 minutes.
  • The two types of questions that have been removed from the test are Speaking Question 1: Speaking Preferences and Personal Preferences Question 5: Describe the situation on campus. The number of unanswered questions has now increased.

Writing Section

  • The TOEFL iBT writing section assesses your ability to construct clear and meaningful sentences.
  • In 50 minutes, you will still complete two tasks.
  • In the writing section, no changes have been made.
